DESCRIPTION:
Welcome to Taiko Kai's second annual spring concert held at Kane Hall 130 on April 22nd, 2018 @ 3:30 PM PST.
Taiko Kai is the University of Washington's first taiko group. The club was founded in the Spring of 2013 by three sisters, Kimberly, Kellie, and Jaymi Matsudaira. The group's goal is to spread the love of taiko throughout the University of Washington and the greater Seattle area and to share this portion of Japanese culture with all.
This concert is a showcase of Taiko Kai's efforts throughout the year as it ushers in a new generation of Taiko players, many of whom just started in Fall of 2017. In addition, we are proud to have Seattle University's collegiate group, Hidaka Taiko and our graduate group, Dekoboko Taiko join us in the concert.
We appreciate all those who can come to this event and be part of Taiko Kai's journey into tomorrow. Witness history by coming to watch our small college group grow.
Note: Earplugs are recommended but not required.
Ticket sales will help support the group with equipment maintenance, workshops, and travel costs. Taiko Kai does all of its own repairs on equipment and has built several drums from scratch using wine barrels. Taiko Kai also wishes to help fund student member participation in workshops by professional groups and players, as well as help fund students to travel to conferences such as the Intercollegiate Taiko Invitational in California where they can learn and grow their taiko skills. Any extra donations are welcomed and will be appreciated.
