Andy Statman Bluegrass Quartet and Eastbound Freight
Andy Statman is universally recognized as one of the worlds foremost mandolin virtuosos. He began initially as a bluegrass performer and played in the iconic group, Breakfast Special, in his early years. Then his musical journey took him to the world of Klezmer music and he developed similar virtuosic facility on the clarinet. He has toured worldwide in the past 35 years with his trio, playing Klezmer and Bluegrass music. He has recorded over a dozen albums. He most recently has appeared on two albums, one with Michael Cleveland and another with Nashville super pickers featuring mandolin duets with Casey Campbell.  The latter was recently nominated for a grammy.
Andy is teaming up with his friend since childhood: Gene Yellin, guitar, a 40 year veteran of the New York bluegrass scene. Gene has played with Hazel Dickens, Breakfast Special (Kenny Kosek, Andy Statman, etc), Yellin Grass (with his bluegrass banjo playing brother, Bob), Eastbound Freight and American Flyer (with Ben Freed).  He has recorded with Hazel Dickens and Gene Lowinger. He is critically recognized as one of the best bluegrass singers to come out of the New York area.  Andy and Gene are joined by Ellery Marshall on banjo and Tim Kiah on bass and vocals. Both have played extensively in the past ten years in the New York bluegrass scene and both have amassed large resumes of musical accomplishment in bluegrass, classical and jazz.  Watch The Quartet on YouTube!    www.andystatman.org

Eastbound Freight has been performing throughout the New York Metro area for over 25 years. Guitarist and lead singer Dave Thompson was a key part of the San Francisco Bay Area bluegrass scene of 1970s, performing with players such as John Reischman, Frank Wakefield, Laurie Lewis and many others. He also recorded with Kenny Baker, Jesse McReynolds and others. Banjo player Bill DeTurk, a native of Nashville who grew up in North Carolina, played with original members of The Red Clay Ramblers and performed with The New Pine Hill Ramblers, Louie Setzer, and Wretched Refuse. Bassist Bruce Barry was a key member of The Sykes Boys, playing guitar, banjo, as well as bass in this seminal Long Island bluegrass group. Fiddler Bill Ayasse, a conservatory-trained violinist, plays a wide variety of musical forms from progressive rock to bluegrass. He has performed internationally with Frogg Cafe Band and learned traditional fiddling from Rick Bunting and John Kirk of Susquehanna String Band. Mandolinist John Brisotti grew up listening to his grandfather and other family members play mandolin, banjo, and piano. www.eastboundfreight.com
