Cultivating Listening and Awareness
Participants will learn how to give and receive both 'aware' attention and active listening to assist them and others in striving to develop their full potential. This will consist of learning non-judgemental and non-advice giving listening skills. It will also include practicing the skills with each other as each individual attempts a new or difficult skill set.
This Artist Education workshop series invites artists on the edge of culture to teach their peers about the personal and professional skills theyve developed to thrive on the margins. The program a unique collaboration between Patricks Cabaret, Pangea World Theater, and Soo Visual Arts Center is intended to create collaborative space for artists to share their skills with fellow artists and organizers, to strengthen relationships and build resilience, and to provide opportunities for artists to put their knowledges to work.
This workshop is led by marcie rendon, an enrolled member of the White Earth Nation. Rendons debut novel, Murder on the Red River (Cinco Puntos Press) is currently available. She is an author and sometimes a performance artist. She is the creative mind behind Raving Native Theater, which produced Rendons play Bring the Children Home at 4 venues in 2015-16, and the co-curator for Raving Native Date Nights in 2017.
A note on accessibility: Restrooms on the lower level can be accessed by elevator and include larger stalls equipped with grab bars. All doors to Pangea's facilities adhere to the Americans with Disabilities Act standards of width, with a minimum clear opening of 32 inches.
Food and refreshments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
