LEARNING GOALS: Becoming acquainted with the powerful tool of charcoal. Identify 3 dimensional urban space using shape to define foreground, middle-ground and background. Capture simple, meaningful line + stroke to clarify nuances within the space you are drawing.
WORKSHOP PLAN: Hour 1: Drawing tool manipulation: Demonstration of gestural movements. Participants apply gesture concepts.
Hour 2: Review of design elements -- line, value, shape -- and demonstration. Participants apply shape, line and value concepts.
Hour 3: Identify and describe basic visual design principles: space and composition. Demonstration. Participants identify good space with principles of involvement.

Instructor info: Anita Lehmann is a registered architect in the State of Washington, Signature Member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and a recent Fellow recipient from the Civita Institute in 2013. She is a 2016 KROB Winner for Hand Delineation, Professional Hand. She teaches drawing, expressive landscapes, urban sketching and watercolor in Seattle year round. She also teaches drawing in Rome and most recently, in Civita di Bagnoregio. The pencil is her natural tool. She finds economy, honesty, and flow in articulating a space, evoking character and meaning through line. She resides in Seattle with her husband, two sons, and dog Izzy. http://www.ahldraws.com/
