Randal Bays and John Coyne, with Owen Bays and Rory Coyne
Randal Bays is an American musician who's been playing Irish fiddle for more than thirty years. He's now widely recognized as a master of that complex and ancient art, in particular the fiddle styles of rural western Ireland. Critics have said some pretty nice things about his playing... he's "among the best Irish style fiddlers of his generation", according to Fiddler Magazine. He will be accompanied by John Coyne.  Originally from Limerick now making his home in Melrose, John is a well known singer and multi-instrumentalist in the Boston area.

Joining Randal and John on this concert will be two fine young musicians, their sons Owen Bays and Rory Coyne, on concertina and accordion. Although both boys have won several awards for their music and both have often appeared onstage with their dads, the really impressive thing is that they play traditional music with great style and energy.

The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world.  It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.

Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music.  As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.

Ticket prices vary and there is a $5 discount for WGBH Members.  If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.

Seating is VERY limited and these events have been selling out, so get your tickets today!
