As a former member of the Klezmatics and for the past twenty years as a soloist, bandleader, composer, and cofounder of cutting-edge klezmer-funk group Abraham Inc., world-renowned, Grammy Award-nominated clarinetist David Krakauer has been one of the most influential, forward-looking exponents of modern, progressive klezmer. Equally at home playing traditional klezmer, creating music for his band Ancestral Groove, premiering/recording new clarinet concerti written for him, or performing masterworks by Brahms, Luciano Berio, Oliver Messiaen, Debussy, Osvaldo Golijov, and Steve Reich, Krakauer is almost a genre unto himself. The list of his collaborators is a veritable who's who of the music world that includes the Kronos Quartet, Fred Wesley, Iva Bittova, Leonard Slatkin, the Emerson Quartet, Socalled, and the Tokyo Quartet. He will explore where this all came from and where it may be going in conversation with Yidstock artistic director Seth Rogovoy. _____________________________________________________________
