Which Play Will Be Named Best Jewish Play of 2018?

Five years ago, Continuum Theater,  a not for profit Jewish theater and arts organization in Chicago,  teamed up with contest founder, The Jewish Plays Project, to present the Midwest Jewish Play Writing Contest. This year our community joins  7 cities that participate in the international contest.  Together with volunteer readers, local audiences, and actors, we help select the BEST JEWISH PLAY of the year and shine a spotlight on all of the exciting semi-finalists.

Our Continuum Theater community panel of 23 people has read plays selected by the JPP and voted on our top 3 favorites.  On March 25th, at the Northbrook Theatre, Continuum Theater has arranged for the community to see excerpts from these three plays, presented concert style, by professional actors.  The audience is engaged in a conversation about which play should be named Best Jewish play and votes for their favorite to continue on to the final round of the contest. Be the first to see these plays and meet the founder of The Jewish Plays Project, David Winitsky,  who will give an entertaining and informative presentation about the plays, playwrights and the contest.

Excerpts from these three plays will be performed:

Six
Zohar Tirosh-Polk

"2006: An Israeli ex-pat brings her boyfriend home for a six day trip.
1967: Four friends lives diverge after the Six Day War."

Summer Night, With Unicorn*
by David Rush
"Magical realism in the Chicago night as force-of-nature Estelle whisks Warren to a gaggle of unexpected spiritual guides. When the sun rises, who will say the Kaddish?"
*This play was previously called "Estelle Singerman."

How to Conquer America: A Mostly True History of Yogurt
by David Meyers
"The true stories of the Dannon Yogurt Company, a young female ad exec, and the 1977 commercial that changed the course of a business and a family."

More information about the playwrights and a short synopsis of the remaining  semi-finalist plays can be found here:
