Layout and Planning of Your At-Home Herb Garden with Denise DeSpirito
For the complete herb garden novice, bring either a drawing, property plan or photos of your home location and we will create a layout for your own personalized herb garden and talk about what you need to create it. We will begin by discussing the foundation of the garden, soil, creating garden beds and the basic needs for healthy plants. From there we will go over a variety of medicinal plants that can create a basic herb garden for at home use. Time will be allotted to break into small groups and discuss your own location, explore even more diverse plant options through seed catalogs, and create a design for you to take home and implement.
About Denise DeSpirito
Herbalist and gardener Denise DeSpirito is the current garden manager at Merryspring Nature Center in Camden, ME. This is her fifth season in the midcoast having spent the first two managing four acres of medicinal herb production at Avena Botanicals in Rockport after growing herbs and flowers at various farms in the northeast including Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in NY and Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island. Originally from New York her love of herbs was birthed in the city where the Mugwort growing from the cracks in the sidewalks gave her visions of connecting more deeply with the plants. She is available for home herb garden creation and consultation as well as classes and plant walks.
