Norrie McCulloch is a highly acclaimed singer/ songwriter, whos music has been described as being akin to such diverse artists as: Townes Van Zandt, Dick Gaughan, Son Volt and Martyn Joseph.
While on a road trip through the United States in 2016, Norrie was inspired to write the songs for his second album These Mountain Blues. Returning home, he then recorded the songs live to analogue tape during a three day session, within a fifteenth century building in Stirling. The album was lauded by critics and featured as album of the week on Iain Andersons BBC Scotland show.
After touring some of the UKs bigger festivals in 2016 (Belladrum, Glasgow Americana and Southern Fried), Norrie set about recording his third album Bare Along the Branches which was released in February 2017. Songs on the album were written about the human spirit, folklore and growing and belonging, showing his versatility to branch off into various musical styles, while staying true to his Scottish roots.
While accomplishing much in his solo musical career, he has also been commissioned to write for Theatre and film, composing the soundtrack for the award winning Look Out theatre production of The Hanging Tree and also having songs included in films by Ken Loach and David MacKenzie.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see Norrie perform an intimate gig in the lovely Two Sisters Cafe.
