The Art of Tranquility; Session 3 of Winter Gongs, a 3-part insight series
February 25, 7-8:30pm
Calming the Mind through Sacred Sound

"The Art of Tranquility" is the third session of a 3-part insight series

By gentle, focused listening while inviting stillness into the body and mind, we open the door to tranquility.

As calm as peaceful waters appear, they're not entirely free from disturbance beneath the surface. Water always moves to achieve a balance appropriate for the situation. Our power is our practice to flow into balance in any situation. We do this by changing our focus away from thoughts that encourage us crash violently like tidal waves. Instead, we recognize that our brain delivered this thought to our awareness, we take note of it and detach from it, and then gently move our attention to our senses in the present moment with gratitude.  With practice over time, we get faster at becoming calm when we need it the most.

About this session:
We will embark on an journey of relaxation and focused attention amidst blooming harmonic overtones. Listen to gongs and other sacred acoustic instruments to reduce attachment to outcomes, calm overactive thinking, and allow the body to balance and heal itself. Make yourself as comfortable as possible, close your eyes, imagine yourself merging with the sounds. You may lay down, sit, or stand in meditation (Zhan Zhuang Qigong). Remain still to maintain focus and go deeper. If your notice your mind wander, gently bring it back by merging with the sounds. Bring your yoga mat if you like. The listening period will last about an hour. After the session you may feel groggy for a time, yet energized and peaceful; If you plan to drive afterwards, stay with us a few minutes for simple grounding exercises and vocal toning, or wait until your body comes fully back to its senses before operating a vehicle or heavy machinery. You're welcome to share your experience with the group, and we can engage in short discussion if you have any questions.

Please note:
Not recommended for pregnant women under 12-weeks, due to unstable nature of any pregnancy during this first trimester.

About your host:
Eddie is a soundwork intuitive who facilitates mind-body relaxation, offering sacred sound as a focal point for participants with therapeutic intent. After working for seventeen years as a software engineer in busy corporate environments, in 2014 he dedicated himself to a daily meditation practice; Over time, he noticed a significant reduction of discursive thought and attachment to outcomes. Deepening his research, he found that ancient and modern civilizations used musical instruments for healing, spiritual, and cultural purposes. After teaching himself how to play various acoustic instruments, Eddie found it easier to enter and maintain specific states of consciousness, through which he achieved greater relaxation, sustained concentration, life realizations, pain reduction, and restful sleep for the day. Improvising with intuition, he plays for groups and individuals who actively train their mind by nurturing a gentle and nonjudgemental way of focused listening. Eddie transformed his life into a musical journey of lasting fulfillment and continued discovery through playing, sharing, and listening to sounds. He uses a mix of didgeridoos, shamanic drums, classical guitar, orchestral gongs, vocal toning, throat singing, chimes, Himalayan singing bowls, and other instruments. He led group sessions for ChantLanta in 2017, and The Weather Channel featured Eddie's electric guitar compositions in "Local on the 8s" segments.
