Based out of Louisville, Kentucky, singer/songwriter Joan Shelley has a sound that mixes the feel of down-to-earth Appalachian mountain music with sparkling, crystal-clear vocals, and personal, heartfelt songwriting. Her songs are simple and express complex emotions about life, love, lust, and existence itself. Shelley has been compared to the likes of English folk legends Sandy Denny and Vashti Bunyan, but she has created a sound that is entirely her own.

Each of Shelley's albums qualifies as a headache remedy, nerve tonic and comfort food rolled into one. Shelley's eponymous fourth solo album follows in the calming, tender tradition of its predecessors. Produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, the album is simple but sonically full and uses acoustic and electric guitars, bass, minimal keyboards and subtle drums in a delicate reverb that deepens the work and makes it whole. The self-titled album landed on NPR's All Songs Considered Top 10 Albums Of 2017 and NPR's Top 50 Albums of 2017.
