SORORITY: SPACE

A two day celebration of the work of black women.

Artists will explore SPACE in all its capacities: physical, emotional, gender, creative, familial, societal, and the ways in which Black women penetrate unwelcoming spaces and the methods we employ for survival. Consider the creative energies and roles we must assume to navigate openly hostile places while we simultaneously work to repair and celebrate ourselves. -- Jynarra Brinson

SORORITY is a new works salon evoking the New York City performance scene of the 80s and 90s, with performances ranging from script-in-hand readings to vulnerable solo work, experimental movement and music. Founded by GINA YOUNG and centering the work of Los Angeles women, trans and queer artists, SORORITY has been presented by the Hammer Museum and Los Angeles Performance Practice's LAX Festival, and called "a high-minded variety hour/art party for the ages" by 5 Every Day.
