Billy Elliot The Musical
The Corwin-Russell School is proud to present " Billy Elliot the Musical".  In the eighties, the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher began to crack down on unions in an attempt to modernize and privatize British industries, including coal.  The story of Billy Elliot follows the life of a young boy during the resulting 1984 mining strike.  While his father and brother are on the picket line, Billy Elliot discovers a love of dance and secretly begins to study in earnest.  Billy quickly shows unexpected talent.  The tension between his personal dream and his community's struggle reaches a boiling point when Billy is given the opportunity to audition for the Royal Ballet.  The only way his father can afford Billy's audition is if he crosses the picket line, giving up solidarity with the strikers in order to give his son the opportunity to shine...
