The Old 280 BOOGIE Music & Arts Festival is held annually in historic
Waverly, Alabama, This little bucolic Alabama town, incorporated since 1911, is home to 145 (yes, one hundred and forty-five) residents, many of whom are volunteers and participants in our home
grown Southern multi-cultural gathering. This year the festival will be held on Saturday, April 20. (as is the tradition. The third weekend in
April for the last 12 years!.)
The Boogie was begun in 2001 when state highway 280 bypassed the
town and the residents of Waverly held a festival to celebrate and
"danced in the street." The bypass literally took the equivalent of an
interstate highway out of the center of our 1911 Mayberry-like town.
Thus, dancing in the street was called for! The event has evolved from a small community event into a national drawing that supports one to two thousand attendees.
The Boogie is held in the neighborhood outdoor amphitheater at
Standard Deluxe Inc., across a spreading lawn under tall pine trees.
All attendees bring their own chairs, blankets & picnic baskets and
enjoy a beautiful afternoon with neighbors and friends.
