King Lear
Wilmington's award winning theatre company Dram Tree Shakespeare returns in the spring of 2018 with its innovative take on Shakespeare's enduring classic: King Lear.
The aging King Lear decides to divide his kingdom among his daughters, two of whom reward his generosity by turning him out and seeking his death. Lear wanders homeless and destitute as chaos and villainy surround him. Finally, aided by his one loving daughter, he begins to understand what it is to be human.
Jamie Rocha Allan has been engaged as the director of King Lear. This marks the Wilmington debut of the English born Rocha Allan. Mr. Rocha Allan has an extensive background in interpreting the works of Shakespeare including a stint at the Royal Shakespeare Company in England.
The production of King Lear will perform at McEachern's Warehouse in downtown Wilmington, NC --- the venue used for the record breaking Dram Tree Shakespeare production of The Tempest in the spring of 2016.
