La Traviata by G. Verdi
A story of love and death, La Traviata follows Violetta, a young courtesan who is ill with tuberculosis as she unwillingly falls in love with young Alfredo. While she struggles with the fact that she is dying, they escape the city to live together in the French countryside. While Alfredo is away from their cottage, his father arrives and convinces Violetta to leave Alfredo and return to her old life. Alfredo is devastated and shows up at a party where Violetta and her old love are also attending to declare her a whore. Months later, Violetta is slowly dying on her deathbed as Alfredo returns to her to declare his love. He arrives too late, and she dies in his arms.
