Eyal Sherf: Shtetl to Broadway
Celebrating the Jewish Songwriters who created Broadway's Songbook
A concert including songs from musical theatre and Jewish music, and the connection between the two genres. Eyal will be accompanied by musical director Stephen Borsuk for a rousing tribute to the Jewish impact on musical theatre.This is a performance NOT to miss!
Saturday, February 3rd, concert at 7:30 pm, doors open at 7 pm, tickets $18 for adult, $6 for students (under 18 years)
Richard Rodgers, George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Kurt Weill, and the list goes on it is the list of composers and lyricists who created some of the most enduring American musicals. And what else do they have in common? Yes, all are members of the tribe.
Join us for this special concert celebrating the Jewish contribution to Americas seminal art form. Expect to hear some of the most well-known songs as well as lesser known gems from the American songbook and musical theatre. We will also devote some moments to exploring how the very tunes that those genius writers heard in shul - some of them we all still sing how they found their way onto the musical stage. And sure enough, the program will be interspersed with a few liturgical treasures compositions set to some of our most cherished prayers.
