PORTLAND, ME (December 2017)  Theater Ensemble of Color rings in 2018 with Rachel, a three-act play about an educated and sensitive young woman who comes to understanding the realities of American racism. Written in 1916 by the Boston-born journalist, teacher, playwright and poet, Angelina Weld Grimké - one
one of the first women of color to have a play publicly performed - Rachel will be performed at the Portland Stage Studio Theater, 25A Forest Avenue, in Portland. This historic play is brought to life for two wonderful unique weekends of family-friendly theater. The show runs January 11, through January 21, 2018. Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday the 21st at 2 pm. Tickets are $12-20.

Theater Ensemble of Color strives to improve inclusion and strengthen culture within our communities through education, social activism, and the arts. This unique collective of multicultural, multi-ethnic multigenerational ensemble of  actors is directed by René Goddess Johnson, a teacher, director, and physical performer. The show features 12 performers, women and men of color between the ages of 6 and 50.

Rachel is directed by René Goddess Johnson. The cast includes Bridgette Kelly as Rachel Loving, David McDonough as Jimmy, Dee Clarke as Mrs. Loving, Delany Tucker as Ethel Lane, Jason LeSaldo as John Strong, Khalil LeSaldo as Thomas Loving, and LaLa Drew as Mrs. Lane. The production team includes Corey Anderson (lighting design), Michelle Lettiere (costume design), Jennifer Christian (set design) Julianne Shea (stage manager), and Jenny Michaud (assistant stage manager).

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:
January 11 - 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday January 21 at 2:00 p.m.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Talkbacks are scheduled after the performances on Sunday, January 14 and Sunday, January 21. This will be presented as an open conversation between audiences and the artists immediately following the 2:00 p.m. performances, moderated by the producer and director.

On Tuesday, January 16, TEoC will preview their summer production, A Meal For Malaga, an original play by our own Christina W. Richardson, with a staged reading at 7 p.m. Tickets will be pay-what-you-can.

TICKETS: Single tickets start at $15 advance/$20 day of.

DISCOUNTS:
Audience members under 30 and students (with valid ID) may reserve $12 tickets in advance ONLY for all performances.
Seniors age 62 and older may purchase $15 rush tickets at the Box Office beginning one hour before show time, based on availability. Groups of 10 or more are eligible for discounts  contact at 207-210-0785.

Theater Ensemble of Color (TEoC) is now in its third season, located in the historic seaside city of Portland, Maine. TEoC is a home for bold new plays, commissioning and producing work by playwrights including Christina W. Richardson, Kesho Wazo, and Black Artist Forum. Under the leadership of Executive and Artistic Director René Goddess Johnson, Theater Ensemble of Color strives to improve inclusion and strengthen culture within our communities through education, social activism, and the arts. We enjoy providing an artistic home for the development and production of contemporary plays of substance and ideas that engage and challenge a diverse audience.
