Silesia, 1945. On the site of the former Nazi camp at Auschwitz Birkenau, the Communist Security Office services create a work camp for Germans, Silesians, and Poles. Under the pretext of punishing traitors to the Polish nation, the Security Services are carrying out a program of ethnic cleansing. In an effort to save Anna, the Polish girls he loves, Franek, the hero of the story, goes to work at the camp where she is imprisoned. He is unaware that his German friend, Erwin, also a prisoner in the camp, has been in love with Anna for years. Franek deludes himself that by joining the communists he will be able to game the system and thus save Anna.

Pod pretekstem ukarania zdrajców narodu polskiego UB dokonuje czystek. Franek zatrudnia sie w obozie, by ocalic Anne, Polke, w której jest zakochany. Nie wie, ze jednym z osadzonych jest Erwin, Niemiec, jego przyjaciel, który równiez od dawna kocha sie w Annie. Franek dolacza do komunistów, ludzac sie, ze uda mu sie oszukac system.
