Avoidance and Escaping Contact - Learn the differences between escaping and avoiding contact. Skaters will learn how to use evasive maneuvers to counteract them. Blocking Like a Boss - The session will cover a variation of blocking styles using strength or momentum to block smarter. It will also go over blocking to control your target. Getting the Point - This session will focus on eliminating points gained by the opposing team on the scoring pass and utilizing blockers positioning to get a positive point differential before the call off. In the Beginning - This session will focus on specific jam start strategies and blocker formations within the early seconds of a jam from the pivot and jammer lines with emphasis on getting lead jammer. Jamming Like a Blocker - Skaters will use their strength and knowledge of the game to bully opponents out of their path. Jamming on Your Toe Stops - We all know that a big part of derby is speed control. We will learn to make bouncy unpredictable movements that will put us in directions faster than our opponent can react. Sticky Sweeping Hits - Prevention of advancement of opponents is the focus in this one. Skaters will learn to stick to and wrap around opponents to prevent them from progressing. Speed control is also emphasized with stopping on the line to enforce the momentum needed. Transitioning and Backwards Blocking - Learn the fundamentals of backwards skating and how to develop sharp movements to use for blocking. Transitioning is studied to enable confidence and comfort while skating backwards. Different types of face to face blocking is introduced. The Great Wall - This session will cover wall formation and wall protection. Skaters will learn ways to minimize opponent's progression on the track as one unit as well as keeping the jammer in the pack as long as possible. Powerful Power Jams - This session will go over strategies to be able to minimize the bleed in a negative power jam situation and touch on passive and active positive power jam strategies.
