The wildly popular Grammy-nominated Celtic super group Cherish the Ladies are coming to Greensboro to present Celtic Christmas on Friday, December 15 at 8pm. The one-performance-only event will be presented in downtowns intimate Van Dyke Performance Space and produced by ArtsGreensboro. Tickets for the event go on sale beginning October 31.
One of the most engaging and successful ensembles in the history of Celtic music, Cherish The Ladies have shared timeless Irish traditions with audiences worldwide for over thirty years. In Celtic Christmas, the noted performers will put their signature mark on classic carols such as O Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night, in arrangements that highlight the groups unique Celtic instrumentation, beautiful harmonies, and spectacular step dancing.
It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldnt enjoy what they do, says The Boston Globe. Cherish the Ladies is the Irish-American super group that formed in New York City in 1985 to celebrate the rise of extraordinary women in what had been a male-dominated Irish music scene. Since then, the group has toured the world, played the White House and the Olympics, recorded 16 outstanding albums including An Irish Homecoming, a live recording of their Emmy winning Public Television Special that aired across America and Ireland.
Under the leadership of the dynamic and irrepressible flute and whistle champion Joanie Madden, these ladies create an evening that includes a spectacular blend of virtuoso instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements, and stunning step dancing. Their continued success as one of the top Celtic groups in the world is due to the ensembles ability to take the best of Irish traditional music and dance and put it forth in an immensely entertaining show.
The New York Times calls their music passionate, tender, and rambunctious, and the Washington Post praises their astonishing array of virtuosity. Theyve won recognition as the BBCs Best Musical Group of the Year and have been named Top North American Celtic Group by both the Irish Music Awards and NPRs Thistle and Shamrock not to mention having a street named after them in the Bronx! Theyve collaborated with such notable musicians as The Boston Pops, The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftains, Vince Gill, Nanci Griffith, Pete Seeger, Don Henley, Arlo Guthrie and Maura OConnell as well as being the featured soloist with over 300 performances with symphony orchestras.
Tickets are on sale now online at thevandyke.org or by phone by calling 1-800-838-3006. Advance reserved seats start at $25 including taxes and fees, and the concert is expected to sell quickly.
