Young Explorers Winter Camp 2017-2018 -- December 21, 2017: "Hunt, Discover, Learn: How to Collect! "
Each day we will explore a different science topic utilizing all the expertise the Museum has to offer! Classes are for campers in K through 5th grade. Classes will meet from 9am-4pm. Aftercare is available from 4 pm-5pm for an additional fee.
December 21, 2017 Have you ever wanted to start a collection, but didn't know how? We will show you how to get started collecting, how to record data, and then how to store and display your treasures. You will be taught by Mike Sanchez, author of Natural History Collector: Hunt Discover Learn- Expert tips on how to care for and display your collections and turn your room into a cabinet of curiosities. Everyone in camp will receive a signed copy of the book to continue their collecting adventures. Build a plant press and collect specimens, assemble a collectors notebook, and create displays of various sorts with items collected in the museums Learning Garden and shared from our teaching collection. This class will also get a behind-the-scenes tour of the museums research collections of rocks, minerals, fossils and bioscience items. AFTER CARE Aftercare will be available from 4:00-5:00 p.m. for an additional fee of $10 per day. Aftercare payment must be paid by cash or check on the first day of camp at 8:30 a.m. No discount available for member. WINTER WEATHER EVENTS Safety is our primary concern for both our teachers and your campers. We will follow Museum protocol in regards to weather related closure or delays. In the event of Museum closure or delay, make-up classes will be offered if possible and at the sole discretion of Museum personnel. Please call the Museum Weather Number at 841-2800 option 8 for delays and closures. YOU NEED TO KNOW All campers must be picked-up by 4:00 PM. Campers still at the Winter Science Program after 4:10 PM will automatically be enrolled in our aftercare program. Payment for aftercare must be made by cash or check at time of camper pick-up.

Online ticket sales stop 7 days before the event. The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science reserves the right to cancel any event that does not reach a minimum of 6 participants. A full refund will be given if the session is cancelled by the museum due to low enrollment.
