Trouble in Tahiti and The Old Maid and the Thief
The Old Maid and the Thief
Music and libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti
The devil couldn't do what a woman can; make a thief out of an honest man.
An old maid busybody, a catty young housemaid, the town gossip and a wandering bum: Which one is the real thief? A quaint small town can hide a plethora of secrets! Written in 1939, this one act was the first opera specifically written for radio performance, and received critical acclaim for its music after it was broadcast on NBC radio. Menotti then adapted it for the
stage and it continues to be widely performed.

Trouble in Tahiti
Music and libretto by Leonard Bernstein
Ah, life in suburbia filled with the sun-kissed idyllic joy of the tropics. Or is it?
Sam and Dinah take a melodic journey as they try to find their way back to love and communication. Filled with soaring melodies and jazzy interludes, Bernstein's music reflects the many styles for which he is most recognized. He began composing the opera while on his honeymoon in 1951 and it is the only work for which he wrote both the words and the music. We present this work in celebration of the 2018 centennial of Bernstein's birth!
