Cornish Preparatory Dance Company at Cornish College of the Arts present the Nutcracker.  Students from age 6 to 18 bring this classic story to the stage with heart and a bit of humor.  The essence of the Nutcracker tradition is brought about in the telling of this story, giving students the opportunity to participate in a classical ballet with competence while at the same time honoring their particular talents.

CPDC Directors, Steve Casteel (former soloist with Houston Ballet and Cornish College of the Arts Dance Alumni ), Leigh-Ann Cohen-Hafford (former dancer with Ballet B.C. and Director of Washington Academy for the Performing Arts), Heidi Gans (former dancers with New York City Ballet) and Vanesa Wylie (Cornish College of the Arts Dance Alumni) bring their expertise both as coach and choreographer to this production. Wylie creates a charming party scene with occasional bits of humor and brings to life an exhilarating battle scene with a growing tree, smoke, explosives and scary mice. Gans lends her restaging skills and own choreographic style to the snow scene and to various divertissements in Act 2. Cohen-Hafford also brings a whimsical style to various Act 2 divertissements as well as a serene staging of the snow pas. Christine Juarez (CPDP Faculty Member and Cornish Summer Dance Program Director) lends her talents of working with younger performers to the Mother Ginger divertissement.
