This multidisciplinary performance was inspired by a series of 13 encaustic paintings by Wendy Newbold Patterson, created in response to the 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school, as what she calls "an elegy for the children of Newtown and a love song to all children."
"The Twenty" transcends that specific painful event, speaking to our universal need to heal and connect in times of anxiety and conflict. We think of it as a resilient reckoning for our times.
"The Twenty" is directed and choreographed by Betsy Melarkey Dunphy and includes Patterson's artwork, original music composed by Barbara Truex, and poetry by young writers from The Telling Room. The performance features fifteen dancers ranging in age from six to seventy.
This unique collaborative piece speaks to healing, redemption, hope and the power of human connection.
There will be a talk-back with the collaborative on Sunday, November 12 following the matinee.
