Much Ado About Nothing

Shakespeare's comedy relocated to Massena, NY in 1958
Director: Francine Davis
Producer: CherylAnn Welch

Synopsis:

It's 1958. After a successful career in the music industry, Leonato, the founder of Aragon Records, has retired to Massena, the small town in upstate New York where he grew up. There, he lives with his daughter, Hero, and his niece, Beatrice.

Leonato's protégé, Don Pedro, who now owns Aragon Records, has decided to pay a surprise visit to his friend and mentor. His companions on this road trip include Benedick, his friend and employee, and Claudio, Aragon's newest recording sensation. Benedick is Aragon's top A & R rep, and the man responsible for bringing Claudio to Aragon. Don Pedro's brother, Don John, another Aragon employee, is also on the trip.

Don John has always resented his younger brother's success. He recently attempted to set up a competing company without Don Pedro's knowledge. Don John's tactics included trying to poach a number of artists, including Claudio, from Aragon. He would likely have succeeded, but for Claudio's loyalty and strong moral core. Don Pedro has forgiven Don John and even kept him on the payroll, but Don John now hates Claudio.

Like millions of other teenaged girls, Hero adores Claudio. She thinks he's the most handsome man she's ever seen and she loves his music. When the two meet, it's love at first sight for both of them.

Meanwhile, Benedick and Beatrice, who engage in a merry war of wits whenever they meet, pick up where they left off the last time they saw each other. They're a perfect match for each other, and everyone knows it except them, so their friends and family devise a plot to trick them into discovering they love each other.

Will the plot to bring Beatrice and Benedick together work?
Will Don John's hatred destroy Claudio's and Hero's chance for happiness together?
Will Benedick kill Claudio?
Will two elderly men end up in a fistfight with two much younger men?
Will the kind, but inept, folks involved in law enforcement save the day?

It's all Much Ado About Nothing.
