PROGRAM Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45 (1868) Sung in German with English surtitles
MUSICIANS The Chamber Choir of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, directed by Ryan Jackson The Shelest Piano Duo
WHAT TO EXPECT The majestic scope of Brahms's Requiem speaks directly and dramatically in the composer's own reduction of the orchestral accompaniment for piano four hands. Kirkland Chapel offers a beautiful acoustic for the work's many aspects, some tender and others grand, hopeful, or fiery. Our performance features English surtitles for the dramatic texts (a mix of thunderous and comforting words that Brahms gathered from his German Bible). Acclaimed concert pianists Anna Shelest and Dmitri Shelest join the twenty-four professional voices of the FAPC Chamber Choir.
Duration ca. 65 minutes (without intermission) Professional choir of twenty-four voices Reception to follow
