Death Goes on Strike (Der Kaiser Von Atlantis)
The newly established The People's Theatre of Denver and The Zoot Theatre Company are teaming up to create a reimagined staging of Victor Ullmans Der Kaiser Von Atlantis, called Death Goes on Strike. A darkly humorous one-act opera about The Grim Reaper getting fed up with perpetual war and deciding to go on strike.
Written as an operatic allegory by Viktor Ullmann during his final days in a WWII concentration camp, this swiftly paced opera shows peoples capacity to create art and beauty even when surrounded by war.
This visually stimulating production will be brought to life by director and recent NYC transplant Aaron Vega along with a team of local Denver and national designers and singers. It will be performed in The Syntax Physic Opera. Since it is in a bar guests may be asked to show ID.
