GEORGE EVANS SINGS SONGS HE SHOULDN'T LIVE AT THE FLYING BEAVER PUBARET!
GEORGE EVANS
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6th - 7:30pm
GEORGE SINGS SONGS HE SHOULDN'T

Canadian jazz/cabaret artist George Evans is following through on his threat to Toronto audiences, presenting the first installment of "George Sings Songs He Shouldn't". Torch songs, swingers, and Broadway repertoire intended solely for the ladies, sung by a baritone. This takes guts - and a sense of humour.

"Warm, lively and innately musical" Brantford Expositor
"Eloquent and skillful" Encyclopedia of Popular Music
"Expressive and sophisticated" Toronto Star
"Superb" and "Enchanting" Jazz Review
"Stylish and swinging" CBC Radio

Recognized as one of the foremost vocal interpreters of jazz and standards on the Canadian scene, George Evans has been celebrated diversely as "a ballad's best friend" (All-Canadian Jazz Festival) and "an agile voice and always swinging" (National Post). Getting his start on the Montréal club scene of the 90s, George went on to tour actively throughout Canada, playing nightclubs and festivals. He has been praised for lively, polished performances in cities such as New York, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Shanghai. Since 1997 has released a total of seven CDs as a leader plus a ballad compilation.

George Evans first appeared before Toronto jazz audiences in 1999 when he launched his second album at the Top o' the Senator. Evans went on to appear there with regularity through the launch of his fifth album in 2005. The current album, "LIVE at the Cellar" has been heard on jazz outlets on five continents. Over the years, George became increasingly familiar to audiences at home through appearances on TVO, Bravo, and CoolTV, as well as through studio sessions and concerts for the CBC. Evans founded an act known as The Three Crooners in promotion of the successful "Here Come The Boys: a Canadian Crooner Collection" for Universal Music Canada, an original compilation he himself produced.

George Evans is a three time National Jazz Awards Canada nominee as "Male Vocalist of the Year" or "Vocalist of the Year," has twice been nominated for a MAC Award, and was nominated Ontario Independent Music Awards "Jazz Artist of the Year." Since 2009, he has been singing nightly on ships for Holland America Line, Cunard, and Princess Cruises. Upon return to Toronto after each contract, he makes a number of local appearances to "make sure they all don't think I've died at sea".
