The Old Way
Inverness residents and Bay Area musicians Irena and Joshua Smith, also known under their band name "The Old Way" have been making some tracks around the Western U.S.
After an incredibly busy Summer spent recording their first full length record release at The Old School Studio in Mendocino, they toured throughout the Southwest performing to great response New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Southern California... And more recently they have returned from an extremely well received Pacific Northwest tour, where they have been performing throughout Washington, and Oregon to overwhelmingly positive crowd response. They performed to a packed house at Kenyon Hall in Seattle and Artichoke Music in Portland, and double-billed with Vancouver B.C. based freak-folkers, Cornshed, at the Axe and Fiddle near Eugene... It has been a very exciting time for these two passionate performers as they travel to support their new eponymous cd release. Now they will make an official release of this record in their hometown of Inverness, where their songs were born and bred...
The Summer of 2012 was an extremely productive time in many ways for this musical couple. They entered the recording studio in July and spent several weeks cutting a record that was the culmination of many miles of traveling, and much blood, sweat, and tears over the past several years. They have deeply studied the craft of songwriting, and fleshed out their own repertoire of compelling original songs as the skin on their fingertips toughened, their lyrical sense sharpened, and their voices became more at home in harmony with each other than by themselves on their own...

After several years of crafting and reworking their patiently manifested rock-folk music, their performance style has evolved into one of pure melodic distillation and extreme focus. Their songs and performances are marked by fully engaged vocal harmonies, deep feel, and melodic improvisation within galvanized forms that are crafted to weather the trends and times that will come and go...
They are currently preparing for cd release events in their hometown of Inverness, as well as San Francisco and Cleveland, and gigs in upstate New York and Asheville, North Carolina, as well as going back into the studio, this time in Woodstock, New York, to record tracks for their upcoming ep due out in early Summer 2013 on Folk City West Records...
