Feb. 10, 2013: Barrett Smith w/ Emily Henry
The Stone Room House Concerts has partnered with Bikenetic to bring you live music on the first Sunday of every month from February through June (except for Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 3!)

Doors at 6:30; Music at 7 pm

Bikenetic is a full-service bicycle shop located at 922 W. Broad Street in Falls Church, owned by Jan Feuchtner.  As Jan says, nothing goes better with biking than beer and music.

Last summer, we held one concert (with Barrett Smith), which was so successful that we've set up this series. The show will work much like the house concerts -- there will be a suggested contribution (of $10-15 a person), and guests are welcome to bring snacks/desserts and/or a beverage.  Some beer and wine will be served.

Please donate 10 dollars to reserve a seat, or 15 for reserved seating near the front. 100% of all proceeds will go to the musicians!

Barrett Smith comes to us from Asheville, NC, to bring a beautiful mix of elegant songwriting and exquisite guitar work.  Currently working as a guitarist and singer in the Shannon Whitworth Band, he loves to take a break from his intense touring schedule to bring audiences a special night of his own original music. With a background in classical guitar, Barrett brings an astonishing level of instrumental mastery to his songs and compositions. However, he may be best known for his multi-instrumental contributions to various acclaimed bluegrass bands over the last 10 years.  So between his original songs, you're just as likely to hear the intricacy of Bach as you are the foot-stomping joy of old-time Appalachian mountain music.  Or maybe even both at the same time

Barrett brings an intense passion and a light-hearted intimacy to his show that, in the best way, immediately connects him to an audience.  It's an evening that promises to deliver all of the emotion and artistry that you always hope for in a live music experience.

Opening for Smith will be Emily Henry, an acoustic folk-pop singer-songwriter whose exquisite voice and depth of feeling will make your heart ache. A writer first, her songs are delicate, complex constructions that tell intimate stories about the heart and the ways we communicate it - or fail to. With catchy melodies and a strong pop sensibility, her music will leave you humming, and thinking, all day.

Henry began singing at a very young age, writing songs at eleven, and put the final piece of the puzzle together by learning guitar at fourteen. Ever since, she has been performing and honing her craft. In 2005 she was a finalist in the 22nd Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for her song "Las Vegas" and she received an honorable mention in the acoustic/folk category of the 10th Annual UniSong International Songwriting Contest for her song "Birds Without Wings". From 2006 to 2009 she spent summers assistant teaching songwriting at the University of Virginia Young Writers Workshop, an intensive, highly accoladed writing program for teens. With 2009 came college graduation and travel, and Henry has now performed her music in England, Spain, and most recently South Korea, where she lived for a year.

Having returned to the United States and recorded a full-length demo, Henry currently plays out regularly and is in the process of gathering musicians for her first fully produced album. She tours mainly in her home-base area of D.C./Maryland/Virginia, but as she books more and more concerts, she will be setting up longer tours.
