TORONTO MASQUE THEATRE presents
THE PEASANT CANTATA by Johann Sebastian Bach (1742) ALL THE DIAMONDS - Songs Inspired by the Night Sky
A midwinter cabaret to warm the soul!
From your candle-lit table at the historic Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, enjoy a glass of wine and Bach's raucous cantata followed by songs and poetry inspired by the night sky.
Our annual winter visit to the beautiful Enoch Turner Schoolhouse is one of the most popular and treasured events on our calendar. This season's visit is a classic TMT pairing:
Sung in English and featuring some of Canada's leading performers, the boisterous The Peasant Cantata draws on the popular tunes of Bach's time, featuring a courting couple who are very much at home in the tavern where they sing lustily and celebrate. Love, sex, and complaining about taxes -- as popular in 1742 as they are today!
Following intermission, All the Diamonds is an intimate cabaret performance, led by Patricia O'Callaghan and supported by a top-notch band, performing songs drawn from across the ages, with a spotlight on some of Canada's great repertoire including Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell.
Classic and contemporary. Boisterous and contemplative. Formal and informal. A perfect evening with TMT.

"The Peasant Cantata has been on my bucket list for years and I'm thrilled that Trish and Giles will sing this great music in the warm and acoustically pristine Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. It will be tremendous fun. The second half of the evening features songs through the ages, with a spotlight on some of Canada's great repertoire including Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell."
