Beyond Trauma: neurobiology, epigenetics and health justice
This is a one day workshop focused on building a greater understanding of trauma and liberatory health for change makers, activists, healers and clinicians. This trauma primer covers the basics of trauma and beyond. Well review the current theories and understandings of emotional (as well as cultural, historical, systemic and ontological) trauma. Participants will come to understand the primary contributors and the major investigations in the realm of trauma. We will follow the physiological narrative of traumatic experiences centered within neuroscience, with special attention paid to the epigenetic processes. Each of these aspects will be placed within the context of radical public health and structural violence. The physiology of oppression (and privilege) will be reviewed. Clinical and community interventions will be covered, including herbal, naturopathic and allopathic. We'll wrap up our day with a focus meaningful self-care and trauma stewardship.
Cost for non-CE Attendance is sliding scale: 30-90$ with the true cost of the class being 60$. If cost is not a concern for you, please consider paying towards the top of the scale to help fund those for whom cost is a concern.
This class is 6 CEUs for NDs and is 150$.
The last two offerings of this class were fundraisers for Black Lives Matter and Standing Rock. We raised almost 8000$ for POC led movements. 20% of the proceeds from this class will go to The Seasonal Wellness Clinic in the Cully Neighborhood, which offers low cost herbal health care.
