'T.V. Transvestite' followed by Q&A w/ Filmmakers and Star of Film!!
T.V. Transvestite
Simone di Bagno and Michele Capozzi, 1982, 60 min.
Before Paris is Burning, there was T.V. Transvestite. Shot in 1982 by filmmakers Simone di Bagno and Michele Capozzi, the documentary captures a fierce House of LaBeija ball thrown at a Harlem Bingo hall. "Lost" and not screened in public for over two decades, this rare film shows such legends as Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey and Sugar in a period before voguing and at the advent of AIDS.

Drag historian Joe E. Jeffreys leads a post-screening discussion among the filmmakers Simone di Bagno and Michele Capozzi, and Ballroom Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Omni who is featured in T.V. Transvestite.

"This is a world I recognize. It is just like my own." --Federico Fellini

"A real drop-dead, unvarnished slice of life." --Details.

Michele Capozzi uses his Master's Degrees in Law and Social Science to be an urban explorer and pornologist. He is happy to be born in 1946 because he could savor the "swinging London," end of the '60s, la "dolce vita" in Rome in the '70s, and the "fabulous" New York 1978/1983. His film Pornology New York (2005) has become a cult. He is shooting a documentary about his hometown Genova, Italy.

Simone di Bagno, painter, filmmaker, advocate, has produced and directed many documentaries for the United Nations on global human rights issues including: women, disabled, Palestinians, homeless, refugees, aging, environment and on peacekeeping operations in Namibia, Cambodia and Haiti. Simone's book of drawings, Nations are Us, explains the U.N. Security Council to children. His paintings have exhibited in New York, Rome and Mexico.

Joe E. Jeffreys is a drag historian and videographer. He produces Drag Show Video Verite, , and has published widely on male and female impersonation in encyclopedias, academic journals and the popular press. His video work has screened at MOMA, the Museum of Arts and Design and London's Tate Modern. Jeffreys teaches theatre studies at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Kevin Omni has produced balls and fashion shows for over 30 years. He pioneered the sequel "Legends Statements & Stars Balls 1Through 10" (1989-2000) and the theme "Lifetime Achievers/Icons, Stars and Status Ballls' (2003-2009). With well over 250 competitive trophy wins, he is a Ballroom Hall of Fame inductee. Kevin is also an activist, ball historian and speaker for a wide range of community and college groups.
