Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Ritual Dinner
The 28th Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Ritual Dinner will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the Inn at Unity Village, 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village, MO 64065-0001. The dinner, created and hosted by Rev. Vern Barnet and CRES from 1984 to 2009, is now hosted by the Heartland Chapter of the Alliance of Divine Love, in cooperation with the interfaith community, including the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council.
The Interfaith Thanksgiving Dinner brings together people from different faith traditions and cultures in recognition and celebration of our common American culture and experience. The dinner is also the occasion of the presentation by the Heartland Chapter ADL of The Vern Barnet Interfaith Service Award. The 2012 award will be presented to Larry Guillot, a member of the Board of Advisors of the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council, Board of Advisors and past Chair of the Board of CRES (Center for Religious Experience and Study), and a long-time educator and consultant in nonprofit management.
Unity Village, approximately 15 minutes southeast of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, is the world headquarters of the Unity movement. The Village includes chapels, meeting spaces, a conference center and library, situated on a Mediterranean-style campus set on 1400 acres of gardens and fountains and is often the site of retreats and classes. Tickets will be available at the GKCIC table at the Table of Faiths luncheon on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Marriott at 108th and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS (see article elsewhere in this issue for information about the luncheon). The dinner is a family-friendly event; tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children (5-12 years) and children under five are free. (There is a $5 surcharge at the door, so plan to buy your tickets early.
