Grand Convergence: Baja
Medicine people, wanderers of the desert at night and lovers of the ocean,

You are most cordially invited to join us on an adventure of potent beauty.  Please read this missive carefully, it most likely won't blow up when you read it but there are potent logistics to be addressed.  This is a complex and wild undertaking for us to do as a community, but I trust in a deeper current bringing us all together.

The journey has three parts and you can choose to do any or all that suit you.  Fly in to Cabo San Lucas and you can either rent a car or arrange for an airport pick up.  Ideally, we fly together in groups to reduce the cost of a pickup.

Everyone joining us needs to purchase a Vermillion Ticket which will fund the Puente Institute and Buena Fortuna in bringing us special guests.

February 14-16: Desert and Ocean Exploration

The first part will be with the consummate desert explorer in residence, Chris Mattias, at the home base of the Puente Institute.  Located in Los Barrilles, Mexico, it is an hour or so north of the airport.  This mellow Mexican town is mostly known to kite boarders for its excellent wind but is easy to navigate and has good coffee and fish tacos.  Chris has a compound on the edge of town outside a big arroyo and has large standup canvas tents for guests to stay in.  We can only host a small crew here and the focus is going to be on adventures.  Chris listens to the wind, ocean and desert with a patient ear and gently closed eyes.  What the land and sea call us to do could be as varied as hiking desert canyons to waterfalls, motorcycling into the hills up arroyos or diving with whale sharks.

The ticket price includes some meals that we'll communally cook but have some pocket money set aside for fish tacos.  If anyone is interested in renting a fancier place in los Barrilles for this time, Airbnb offers non-camping options.  That said, Baja in the winter is qa great place to be in a tent.

February 17-19: Buena Fortuna

Buena Fortuna farm and ecological sanctuary is one of the most botanically diverse places on the whole Baja peninsula and we are honored to host our deep dive here together.  Kitzia, our host, has deep medicine with the plant world and we have many opportunities here to connect with local medicine traditions and the living plant world itself.

There are ticket prices here for a variety of camping options.  There is also a local hotel nearby if you want a non-camping option that is reasonable priced at about $100/night double occupancy: http://www.vistalaribera.com/es/

Meals are going to be provided by Kitzia and her staff from a great deal of food they have grown themselves as well as local fish.  Please buy a meal ticket to go with your lodging.

February 20-22: Adventure time or Cabo Pulmo

I wanted to create some time for folks not to have structured activities and adventure around Baja and follow their muses.  Whether it be kite surfing in Los Barrilles or looking for the big waves to surf in Todos Santos or exploring with folks you've met at the previous two gatherings this could be the time.

That said, some folks just need to chill and Cabo Pulmo is about as chill as it gets.   Cabo Pulmo is surrounded by undeveloped desert and a stunning mountain range, the pristine beaches of Cabo Pulmo Park give way to a shallow bay that cradles one of three living reefs (the only hard coral reef) in North America.

For many years, this precious place went unprotected. But through the tenacious efforts of the Cabo Pulmo community, in 1995, the waters offshore from Cabo Pulmo were designated a National Marine Park by the Mexican government.  This is one of the few places on the earth that the coral is actual recovering.  The whole community is off-grid and I think as far as conscious tourism goes, this is a model to explore.

I've arranged a luxury home in walking distance to the beach.  We have 3 bedrooms with 2 queens, 1 king and 2 pullout couches.  This can be our time for deep dives together both on the land and under the sea.  Cabo Pulmo is an excellent place to scuba so if you a dive card, please bring it.

February 23-26: Cabo Pulmo or Adventure Time

Pretty much just like the above.  You could choose to stay at Cabo Pulmo for the whole week or you could choose to adventure the whole week or you could stay at Cabo Pulmo part of the time.

We'll sort of out more the logistics as we know more of who is coming and what they want tot do.   I'm getting really fired up about sharing with you a place I love and spending time in the ocean and desert with you all.  There is no refunds on this one as we'll have to pay for the food and lodging ahead of time.
