VideoOut, a NYC-based video platform for LGBTQ people to share coming out stories and build community, will partner with Strangewaze, a Chicago-based film production company, to host a Chicago Story Collection Day on January 15, 2017 at The Center on Halsted from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm.
Chicago Story Collection Day will consist of a day-long effort to engage members of the LGBTQ community and local filmmakers and to film personal narrative stories of coming out as a way of building community and amplifying the voices of LGBTQ people.
VideoOut is building the largest library of coming out stories in hopes that everyone will come out and, as Harvey Milk said, destroy the lies and distortions that surround the LGBTQ community. It also hopes to affirm the work that of generations past by highlight the stories of LGBTQ elders. Lastly, the stories will live forever in VideoOuts library to serve as a resource for LGBTQ youth and a bridge of empathy between the LGBTQ community and everyone else.
Immediately following the event, VideoOut will host an afterparty at Sidetracks Cherry Lounge, 3349 N. Halsted St. (7:30pm, no cover, cash bar)
