Hooligan Sparrow premiered at Sundance 2016 and has played over 60 film festivals and won over 20 awards including the IDA Emerging Filmmaker Award and nominations for the Independent Spirit Truer Than Fiction Award, the Cinema Eye Honors, and the BFCA Critics Choice Documentary Award. A real-life thriller unfolds as filmmaker Nanfu Wang follows a daring Chinese human rights defender seeking justice for six girls who were raped by their principal. The government cracks down violently on the activist known throughout China as Hooligan Sparrow, arresting her, chasing her across the country, and paying mobs to attack her. Filmmaker Wang herself becomes a target of the states intimidation tactics as she exposes the truth of China's ongoing human rights catastrophe.
