Brooklyn Forest -- Children's Forest School
The Children's Forest School recreates for about an hour, what it would be like for neighborhood children to play together in the woods outside of a village somewhere.
As it happens, our village is Brooklyn and our woods are a grove of sycamores and ginkgos on the top of a hill in Fort Greene Park. It's the neighborhood's Nature oasis.
Carol Lin, a veteran Waldorf teacher in Ft. Greene, teaches the 45-minute drop-off program. The class follows the rhythms of a Waldorf classroom.
Whatever the weather, the children will gallop across the grass using horsey reins, make mud and explore the forest before coming together for a snack and circle time of simple puppet shows, finger plays and seasonal songs.
Besides Ms. Carol, there will be an additional teacher for every three children who attend. Children's Forest School is a mixed-age program, but most of the children are ages three and four.
