The Minetti Quartett is a musical sensation from Austria, wrote Der Tagesspiegel following the Minetti Quartets début in the Berlin Philharmonie in 2009. The quartets name is a reference to a play by the dramatist Thomas Bernhard, who lived for many years in Ohlsdorf, birthplace of the two violinists.
The Minetti Quartett has been a rising star of the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) in the 2008/09 season. Since then it has played in, among other venues, Londons Wigmore Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Konserthuset Stockholm, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Salzburg Mozarteum, and Viennas Konzerthaus and Musikverein. The Minetti Quartett is also a welcome guest at various leading chamber music festivals including the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Aldeburgh, Aix-en-Provence, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (north-east Germany) and Kuhmo (Finland). In addition to appearances in the big European cultural centres it has undertaken concert tours to North, Central and South America and to Australia, Japan and China.
Ever since 2003, the year of its foundation, the Minetti Quartett has won prizes at numerous competitions including first prize at the international Rimbotti String Quartet competition in Florence, the Haydn Prize at the International Haydn Competition in Vienna, the top award at the International Schubert Competition in Graz, and the Grosses Gradus ad Parnassum Prize.
The Minetti Quartetts début CD appeared in 2009 with hänssler CLASSIC featuring works by Joseph Haydn. This was followed in 2012 by another CD, again with hänssler CLASSIC, this time featuring the early quartets of Mendelssohn; both CDs were highly praised by the critics. Its third album came out in 2013 on the Avi Music label and consisted of clarinet quintets with Matthias Schorn. They have worked closely with the pianist Till Fellner and also with other musicians such as Thomas Riebl, Friedemann Weigle, Alois Posch, Martin Fröst, Paul Meyer and Fazil Say.
