New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players presents H.M.S. Pinafore
New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players (NYGASP), Americas preeminent professional Gilbert & Sullivan repertory ensemble, comes to the Outer Banks. Under the dynamic leadership of Artistic Director Albert Bergeret, who has been hailed as the leading custodian of the G & S classics by New York magazine, NYGASP has created its own special niche in the cultural mosaic of New York City and the nation. Since its founding in 1974, the company has presented over 2,000 performances of the G & S masterpieces throughout the eastern United States and Canada, captivating audiences of all ages.
In H.M.S. Pinafore, lowly sailor Ralph Rackstraw has a problem. Or rather, two. Hes fallen for the Captains daughter, Josephine, and to make matters worse, shes been promised to the haughty Sir Joseph Porter. And although Josephines heart beats only for Ralph, she agrees to be a dutiful daughter and accept her role as Sir Josephs wife. Normally Sir Joseph would boast his appreciation of equality among men, but when Ralph and Josephine eventually try to elope, he flip flops his position. Speaking of flipping and flopping Little Buttercup, the bumbling former baby farmer admits her mistake from many years before that Ralph was really born to the Captains parents and vice versa. In the end, much rejoicing begins, as everyone finally finds true love. Even Little Buttercup!
