HAPGOOD is a dazzling maze of secrets, spies and espionage, encapsulated in Tom Stoppard's characteristically humorous and clever dialogue. When a sting operation formulated by British Intelligence to ferret out a mole inside MI-5 goes inexplicably wrong, the loyalty of Russian quantum physicist-turned British double agent, Joseph Kerner (Matthew Delamater) is called into question. The CIA, which has been assisting in the operation, suspects Elizabeth Hapgood (Jennifer Porter) - head of the division initiating the sting, and the agent who "turned" Kerner for the British. The solution to the failed "drop" seems impossible to solve, and it falls upon Hapgood to unravel a mystery as quixotic as the behavior of electrons and the wave/particle duality of light, where the very act of observing determines the outcome. Look, expecting one answer, and that is the one you will get. Look away, and an entirely different result arises. Nothing is what it seems, and everyone is suspect in this provocative and elaborate spy thriller.
