Impro @ the OSO
IMPROVISATION FOR BEGINNERS
8-week course, Tuesdays 12.15-2.15pm starting 10th January 2017
(no class 14th Feb)
If you want to challenge yourself in a new and exciting way, improvisation can be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding activities you could pick. It's a great way to increase self confidence, improve communication skills and gain insight into our thoughts, feelings and relationships. It's also a lot of fun!
Story Kitchen Impro are offering a friendly and fun series of classes at the OSO Arts Centre in Barnes, designed to teach the basics of improvisation. Over the course of 8 weeks we will work together as a team to create stories and scenes, learning the core principles of impro and most importantly, having fun while we do it.
Anyone is welcome. There's no need to worry about being funny or clever and you don't have to have done improvisation before. All you need is the ability to say YES!
IS IT FOR ME?
Improvisation is for anyone, and at Story Kitchen Impro we encourage diversity in all ways. All we ask of you is enthusiasm and generosity to help create a positive space we can all benefit from. But you might be worried that it's going to be too scary to 'make stuff up', or that we're going to ask you to leap about the room doing crazy stuff that you're uncomfortable with. Well, we don't. We provide you with a toolkit that you feel comfortable with and inspired by, to create the scenes and stories you want to tell.
ABOUT STORY KITCHEN IMPRO
Story Kitchen Impro is a improvisation theatre company based in London, founded by Faye Brann. Faye is a writer and improviser, recently returned to London after nine years living in the Middle East. She started Story Kitchen Impro on her return to the UK in order to pursue her love of the impro formats created by Keith Johnstone. The company performs weekly and monthly shows in Central London and offers workshops and classes for adult beginners, schools and businesses.
Until her move to London, Faye was part of the house team at the Courtyard Playhouse in Dubai, performing improvised shows and improvised musicals for theatre audiences, working with schools and corporate clients and performing at several arts festivals in the region including the Emirates Literature Festival. Among others, she has trained with Keith Johnstone, Patti Stiles from Impro Melbourne and Shawn Kinley from the Loose Moose Theatre, and in 2016 won Best Female Improviser at the UAE Comedy Awards.
For the past few years, Faye has performed, directed and hosted Keith Johnstone's Theatresports and Maestro formats regularly as part of the Courtyard Playhouse annual programme of events. She has coached teens for Theatresports schools tournaments and has also devised and run workshops for beginner adult improvisers.
"Faye remembers what it's like to be afraid the first time you improvise... you're safe with her, she's got your back - just enjoy and have a good time."
"Faye is not only a great human, but she's the type of person you want around you when 'taking a risk' seems like the scariest thing in the world. She teaches, encourages and gives you the advice and skills needed to improve."
"The workshop was amazing. Your teaching style is a rare and powerful combination of strict enough to relay really impactful feedback, and kind and safe enough to build the players, rather than make them feel self-conscious. Your love of the craft absolutely shone through and made us all energised and inspired."
