More about Anna Ludlow:
Anna's musical growth immerged a style all her own something Anna calls Mainland Maritime Fiddle Fusion. It offers the raw energy of stripped-down tradition then makes it new and relevant with sounds that speak of more recent times and influences. And then she sings and the picture is complete. A style all Anna. Yes, there are many very talented female fiddlers on the scene, all with a flair of their own. But until youve seen Anna Ludlow, your experience is incomplete.
Annas talent has taken her beyond Nova Scotias rich music scene, to share stages with the likes of The Beach Boys, Blue Rodeo, Don Ross, and Ron Hynes. Endless offers to play private and corporate functions and to collaborate with other musicians in shows and on recordings speak to her versatility as a performer. As the principle fiddler for the Halifax, NS based hit show DRUM! Anna has performed in Dollywood, at the 2010 Winter Olympics, twice on Parliament Hill for Canada Day, and even for Queen Elizabeth II. But her local fans dont really care about all that stuff they just know they want to hear Anna because hearing her will make them feel good!
Annas recording Reel to Reel, released in 2009, was produced by herself and Dave Burton and was mixed and mastered at ECMA-winning Lakewind Sound Studios. Featuring the talents of Fred Lavery, Scott Macmillan, Dave MacIsaac, Wendy MacIsaac, David Burton and Jamie Gatti, the album received multiple award nominations. The CD showcases Annas talent as both fiddler and singer. Traditional in nature Anna wanted to honour the music that most influenced her musical development. Her much-anticipated follow-up recording will place even more emphasis on her unique style.
The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band
Canada's oldest Civilian Pipe Band, founded in 1896. They are the first Pipe Band to be heard in the Nation's capital on Burns night, January 25,1896. Under the direction of Pipe Major Bethany Bisaillion, the Sons of Scotland compete at the Grade 4 and Grade 5 levels and perform in some 50 concerts and parades throughout the year. We are committed to developing the talent of each of our members, producing quality music, and having a great deal of fun. The band is proud to be affiliated with the College of Piping in Glasgow, Scotland and the Ottawa City Piping College.
The Celtic Cross Dancers is a group of Ottawa dancers who perform a mix of traditional and contemporary choreographies.
With decades of experience in Highland, Irish, and Ottawa Valley Step dancing as teachers, performers, competitors, and choreographers, Celtic Cross members have performed for Irish ambassadors, British high commissioners, and members of the Royal Family; have shared the stage with the likes of Ashley MacIsaac, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, the Sons of Scotland, Ottawa Police, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Pipe Bands, and with countless Celtic bands including Jiggs Boson, the Lyon Street Celtic Band, Occasional Pudding, and the Rockwood Ceilidh Project; have appeared on CTV, City TV, and other networks; and have performed and competed across Europe and North America.
Celtic Cross shows are a lively blend of all three dance styles and are a mix of traditional solo and group dances as well as original choreographies. The groups repertoire is suited to any venue or event from festivals to pubs to live concerts to wedding receptions and anything in between.
