DVOŘÁK Cello Concerto with Michael Center, soloist BEACH Gaelic Symphony
Of all the cello concertos, Dvorak's masterpiece stands as the most celebrated and coveted by cellists around the world. It is a work of massive proportions and extreme technical challenges which never misses to awe and inspire. Amy Beach made history in 1896 when she completed what was the first symphony by an American woman. She based four of its themes on traditional Irish-Gaelic melodies which she found in a collection published in 1841 by a folk-song collector in Dublin. We are thrilled to present this ground-breaking work which inspired generations of women composers!
