Cançonièr presents The Black Dragon: Music from the Time of Vlad Dracula
Experience music of the 15th century, during the reign of the infamous Vlad the Impaler, whose cruelty and tyrannical rule of Wallachia (modern-day southern Romania) shocked all of Europe. And yet, despite his fearsome reputation, he is still revered as a hero in Romania, where he successfully resisted an Ottoman Turkish invasion. This program includes a setting of Michel Beheim's poem about Vlad, music of the Byzantine court and church, Italian and French dances, Balkan folk songs, Turkish music, German songs, and the Lamentation for the Fall of Constantinople by Guillaume Dufay.
