Farm Fest: A Celebration of Local Fare
Farms, chefs, a distillery and brewery have been working cooperatively to provide local food and libations to the Twin Ports Region and this August they are looking to celebrate their interdependence with a party. Farm Fest will be held on August 20th at the Free Range Film Barn from 6 to 10pm and will feature specialty chef prepared meals with vegetables from the Food Farm and pork from Yker Acres, live music from local bands, and spirits from Vikre Distillery and Bent Paddle Brewery. Tickets for the whole evening are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Specialty chefs hail from the Duluth Grill, Chester Creek Café, and Lake Avenue Restaurant. Musicians include Amy Abts, Dan Dresser, and Jessica Skilar.

Were so excited about working with these other farms and local organizations says Food Farm owner, Janaki Fisher-Merritt. This year we started growing certified organic grain for Vikre Distillery and they are planning to use the spent grain after the distillation process to feed the pigs at Yker Acres  a farm that is just 2 miles away from us. Yker Acres also get spent grain from Bent Paddle. The pork tastes amazing and I love how interconnected we all are  it is truly a cooperative model for feeding our community.

Between the two farms  Yker Acres and Food Farm  over 2 million servings of food is produced for the Twin Ports Region annually. Bent Paddle Beer, Vikre Distillery, Duluth Grill, Lake Avenue Café, and Chester Creek Café have been active leaders in local sourcing and have been strong partners in the strengthening the areas agricultural infrastructure.

Matt Weik, owner of Yker Acres, is proud to be part of a cycle that is providing quality local food that also supports the local economic ecosystem. When we talk about developing our local agricultural infrastructure  this kind of system is what we need to celebrate So were doing it! With local musicians and really great food and drink!
