The Seattle Poke Contest
Poke (po-KEH) is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine. Poke is Hawaiis king of food, its soul food and its eaten everywhere - from potlucks to elegant get-togethers. It is on the menu of five star dining rooms, plate lunch stands, sushi, izakaya restaurants, and even food trucks. Its popularity is beyond the islands and is now a international phenomenon! Chef Sam Choy, the proclaimed God Father of Poke, has made his fame traveling the world educating people on this wonderful dish. Thanks to the influence of Chef Choy, there are many variations of this dish today. He has inspired many chefs to create their own take on this Hawaiian classic. Hosted by Chef Sam Choy, The Seattle Poke Contest shines light on many of these great chefs in a fun competition. The judges will be a mixed group of chefs, writers, and celebrity surprises. Proceeds will go towards The Bennett Foundation (thebennettfoundation.org), founded by Seattle Seahawks Michael Bennett. The winner of this competition holds the crown for 2016s Best Poke in Seattle.
