Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar, created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, first debuted on Broadway in October 1971. The musical has wowed audiences for generations and is a timeless work set against the backdrop of the last week of Jesus's life seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. The story is loosely based on the Gospels' account of Jesus's life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples into Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. Contemporary attitudes and feelings and slang occur throughout the lyrics and allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction.
