Woodblind album release + MR DR
Veikko Lepisto and Jason Wussow of Woodblind, the Acoustic Ska Duo out of Duluth, have been writing and performing together for over two years now. They met at Beaners Central, the cafe and music venue that Jason owns, when Veikko settled back in Duluth after over twenty years in Los Angeles. While in L.A., Veikko played bass with an impressive list of musicians including The Royal Crown Review, Bette Midler, and Mike Ness from Social Distortion. And Jason is a mainstay musician in Duluthhaving played in Flux Skapacitor, No Room to Pogo, and Yeltzi. Their connection and mutual respect was instantaneous, especially when they started talking about Ska. In addition to their shared love for Toots and the Maytals, they also agreed that this life and these friends are meant to be celebrated. The little bird in their song Big Voice says it best, Im small but I gotta big heart, Im gonna love a lot.

Just a year after they began, Woodblind released a collaborative 7 vinyl with Teague Alexy of The Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank and an animated video for their single Big Voice.  According to Rift magazine, Woodblinds first release . . . pack(s) a lot of punch in two songs that remind us to focus on the truly important things in life.

Over the last year, Woodblind has opened for Cloud Cult at Bayfront; collaborated with Charlie Parr, the Hot Club of Duluth, and Big Wave Dave & the Ripples; as well as finished their first full length album, Big Voice. They covered a couple favorite tunes including the classic As Time Goes By and Parrs upbeat song Jubilee, and re-released their version of Teague Alexys Working Man Song. The rest of the album ranges from catchy sing-along tunes like their ode to a West Duluth bar,  Kom on Inn (youre gonna shake it), to equally captivating songs like Cold built on the foundation of a memorable xylophone melody. From beginning to end, Big Voice never lets go of the Ska energy that originally brought the duo together. We strive to master the style, but first we strive to have a good time.  Veikko Lepisto
